Maker Farm Test Kitchen

Every Maker Farm recipe starts in my real kitchen, with real ingredients, real meals, and honest feedback from our own table.

But once a recipe leaves my kitchen and goes out into the world, I want to know how it works in your kitchen, too.

That’s what the Maker Farm Test Kitchen is all about.

When you make a Maker Farm recipe and leave an honest star rating and written review, you help me understand what worked, what was clear, what could be improved, and what other home cooks need to know before they try it.

And as a thank-you, I’ll send you the latest digital edition of my Maker Home Companion Cookbook, with specially-formatted recipe pages made for real-kitchen cooking. This cookbook is not available anywhere else currently.

How It Works

1. Choose a Maker Farm recipe

Pick a recipe you genuinely want to make from MakerFarm.com.

Please use the recipe as it appears on the blog, either from the online page or the printable recipe card. That helps me know whether the recipe instructions, timing, ingredient list, and notes are clear and useful.

2. Make the recipe in your own kitchen

Follow the recipe as closely as you reasonably can. Real-life substitutions are okay, of course, but please mention them in your review so I understand what changed.

Helpful things to notice while you cook:

  • Were the instructions easy to follow?
  • Did the timing feel accurate?
  • Did the recipe look and taste the way you expected?
  • Did you make any substitutions?
  • Would you make it again?
  • Is there anything you wish I had explained more clearly?

3. Leave an honest review

After you make the recipe, return to the recipe page and leave a star rating and written review.

Your review does not need to be perfect or glowing. If something was confusing, if you changed an ingredient, if the cooking time was different for you, or if your family loved it, all of that helps.

Your review helps other home cooks decide whether the recipe is right for them, and it helps me keep improving the recipes here on Maker Farm.

4. Receive the Maker Home Companion Cookbook

Once your review is approved personally by me, I’ll email you the latest available edition of the Maker Home Companion Cookbook as my thank-you. I try to approve reviews daily, so please allow me at least 24 hours (maybe a wee bit more on the weekends).

The cookbook is updated periodically, not on a fixed schedule. Each time you make and honestly review an eligible Maker Farm recipe, you’ll receive the current edition available at that time. The idea is you keep reviewing, and I keep updating and sending you the latest and greatest version, along with my heartfelt thanks!

What Is the Maker Home Companion Cookbook?

The Maker Home Companion Cookbook is a growing digital cookbook filled with comforting, practical recipes from the Maker Farm kitchen.

Each recipe is designed as a beautiful, easy-to-use one-page sheet, with the ingredients, instructions, helpful notes, and a finished photo all in one place.

I made these for myself, because I don’t like to touch my phone, tablet, or even paper while I am cooking, so I need everything on one single page … and I thought you might find that useful, too. Thus, I call these my “scroll-stopping” recipe pages. My rule is everything has to fit on a single page so I can follow it easily.

It is made for real home kitchens, busy days, cozy meals, and cooks who appreciate having everything clearly laid out before they begin.

Here’s a shot of one of these scroll-stopping recipe pages in my kitchen as I work so you can see what I mean.

A Few Important Notes

Please only leave a review for recipes you have actually made.

The cookbook is a thank-you for all honest and real feedback, not for a positive review. All reviews are welcome when they reflect your real experience.

Your email address is used to send the cookbook and is not displayed publicly with your comment.

Reviews are read and approved by me personally before they appear on the site. Spam, duplicate reviews, or reviews that do not appear to be based on making the recipe may not qualify for the cookbook thank-you.

The cookbook does not arrive in your inbox until I’ve read and approved your review. Please also note it may appear in Promotions or even Spam, so search for “[email protected]” to find it. I recommend you whitelist that email address (add it to your address book) and/or drag my emails into your main inbox to ensure you see my emails in the future.
