This space shouldn’t hold this much — but it completely changed how we find, organize, use, and think about everything we store.
This simple change turned a stressful, cluttered area into something that finally works for everyday life. When we moved into our new studio on Maker Farm, this hallway felt like wasted space. Shelves went in… and then life happened. We had storage, but no system, and finding anything took longer than it should have.
This winter, stuck inside, we finally slowed down and did something about it. In this video, I’m sharing how we rethought storage in an overlooked space, why systems matter more than square footage, and how creating intentional organization can reduce overwhelm and make daily life feel calmer.
This isn’t a how-to; it’s the story of turning friction into flow, one decision at a time. If you’re someone who feels like clutter quietly drains your energy, but struggle to stay organized, you’re my kinda person!

MY ORGANIZATION METHOD (& WHERE DID YOUR MIXER GO?): I keep getting asked where I put my big items like the stock pots and mixer. I was actually going to include a mention of this in the video, but I figured no one really cared so I removed it. I was clearly wrong about that! Some things did not belong in the hallway, like those items and some others you did not see (empty milk jugs I am using for gardening) — I assessed my items there and things like the pots and mixer went back into the kitchen area, where space was freed up by bringing other things into the hallway because I didn’t use them frequently and they would fit in the totes. This is part of my organization system I call P.A.C.T. which stands for Purge, Assess, Contain, and Tag. This video just focused on the C and T parts of that system (Contain and Tag) — I glossed over the Purge and Assess parts because this was not intended as a tutorial on organizing. BUT, if you’re interested, I discuss P.A.C.T. in many of my other organizing videos, such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS4Qjog7vqY
